I checked into Pineapple Park in Kona in the morning
with the intention of staying there, but due to some
circumstances, I ended up in Hilo that night, and never
found myself back to Kona. Here is the limited review of
what I saw that morning. Pineapple Park is located about
15-20 miles South of Kona in Captain
Cook. It is right on the the main road, Hwy 11. Captain
Cook is a small town with a few restaurants and shops.
The overall appearance looked clean. It is a smaller
accommodation, and did not appear to have a yard.
I was able to get a quick look at the their dorm
accommodations. The dorm room looked a little small, but
big enough to fit 2 double bunks. The beds were nicely
made up, and the room was clean. Being right on the main
highway, there may be some noise at night from traffic.
I did not see their bathrooms. The place is not to
tightly secured during the night, but they probably have
little reason to be. They do have small safe type
lockers for your valuables you can rent out for $2/day
which I like. They also have some internet computers set
up. It looked like they rent or give out plenty of beach
accessories, such as snorkel equipment, and kayaks. From
my understanding, there is some real nice snorkeling in
the area. They have a small kitchen area, and
washer/dryer available.
Although I did not spend the night there, from my
limited experience there, as a single traveler, I would
choose Pineapple Park as my number one place to stay if
I were looking for budget accommodations around Kona. It
cost me $22 for a bed in their 4 bed dorm.
